Blank Stares

At Minx we love embracing a little kitsch into our style – it’s important to not take yourself or your style so seriously. When we are investing into our style and into the image we are creating for ourself each day, it can feel like every move we make must be perfect. Truth is – what’s most important is to have fun. Fun is one of our shop’s values and it’s an important one. There are subtle ways to incorporate fun into your wardrobe, perhaps with some hidden details or an unpredictable color or fabric. On the other hand, there are hamburger sweaters that are an obvious statement of joy. We hope you can find some joy in your creative fashion expression!

Sweater Weather

When you imagine winter-ware, and specifically sweaters, what sorts of words come to mind? Cuddly, yes. Oversized, perhaps. Knitted, yes of course. But there is so much more to these winter-weather staples! We are seeing sweaters in vastly different shapes, silhouettes, and styles. Cropped, leather accents, boat-neck, off the shoulder, tie-details. You name it and it’s probably on a sweater! Who says sweaters can’t be sexy, after all? Yes, they’re east to toss on and amazing to snuggle up in on a cold evening, but they can also be the star of your winter ensemble. Here we have a homage to old Hollywood, think: casual Marilyn Monroe with this off-the-shoulder black sweater from French Connection. Paired with dark, slimmed jeans, and a great, strappy heel, you are rocking a timeless look while also feeling comfortable for whatever the winter may bring. We hope you feel inspired to create a look with your sweaters as the main event rather than just another layering piece.

Set Up

It’s no secret: we LOVE sets! Maybe you’ll remember this wonderfully tropical two-piece set from the summer. Now we have a more weather appropriate sweater set that can easily take you from running errands to a nice dinner out without much restyling. Toss on your favorite, go-to sneakers with this look for the day, and when the evening rolls around add some tights and black booties and you’re ready! For added warmth, you could easily layer a chambray or flannel shirt underneath to add some additional color and interest to this look. If you love a sweater dress but also desire flexibility, this sweater set would be perfect. Wear these two pieces together, or combine them with your well-loved winter essentials and you are good to go! Also, quick moment of silent reverence for this velvet, embroidered bag from Johnny Was. Such a luscious and functional piece, we are beyond obsessed.

Sweaters and Scarves and Coats… oh my!

Do you feel that chill in the air?

It’s definitely time to snuggle into a warm sweater, slip your stocking feet into a pair of sturdy boots and trot on down to Minx!

We just got in about 17 seventy pound boxes (I’m not exaggerating…) full of new cozy sweaters, detailed coats, plaid scarves, sparkley statement necklaces, printed party dresses… I mean you name it and it was most likely in one of those boxes.

The best part?

Most of it’s under $60!! Seriously cute dresses for $30/$45, really fun earrings for $12… teal, grey, and indigo leggings for $22.

Of course we have some investment pieces as well. Like those stunning French Connection coats! Or the lovely grey Frye boots ($245). But we love when we can offer you serious style that won’t set you back.

What Inspires Us…

Joti – The costumes in “Bright Star.” For real. I want to dress like this. The colors, the textures, the volume… So inspired. Makes me want to trot into Minx and Buy that Dolce Vida cropped jacket to wear over all my summer maxi dresses… like… now-ish… as in this second… unlock the store at 10:30 pm and take that baby home… leaving the appropriate amount of cash behind of course.

Letitia the chill in the air and the recent bout of rain. You can feel it in your bones… the change of season is nearly here.  It’s almost time to bring the sweaters I picked up in August and early September into the forefront of my wardrobe.  Nothing beats a beautiful fall day spent walking the dogs around the neighborhood, marveling at the color of the changing leaves on the tree-lined streets of West Asheville.  And with all the rain, I’ve been able to bust out my new wellies!  Thanks, J Crew Clearance Store!
