Forage

You know the feeling when you look at a picture and you just immediately squeal with delight? It just bursts out of you! Well, that’s precisely what happened when we saw this photo-set of Carrie in our Levi’s Utility Jumpsuit. There’s something so perfectly contrasted about that piece in the river & amongst perfect yellow blooms of the botanical gardens. And it’s no shock that this jumpsuit is comfy, as evidenced by Carrie doing full-on hand stands in between shots. Even with all of the acrobatics, this jumpsuit is tailored to hug your shape perfectly so that YOU are wearing the piece and it’s not wearing/tugging/bunching you. We see this jumpsuit as a unique canvas for you to add your own personal flare to, keeping in mind that the backup plan can always be splashing around in a river!

Tell Me A Storia

Hello, sweet friends! We are back and, whew, it feels so good! Spring is here in Asheville and we thought that there’s no better way to bring the Minx Blog back than with the Botanical Gardens as a backdrop & featuring two Spring dress looks! We are so thrilled to have Carrie & Grace modeling for us this season– let’s make some introductions. These two lovely locals embody a soft strength that perfectly encapsulates what Minx is all about. Carrie works out of a collective space with other artists and makers in Marshall & spends her time traveling all over searching for beautiful vintage finds to bring back to Asheville. Grace is a visual artist and weaver whose work can be found in coffee shops, art stores, and galleries all over Asheville & beyond. It was such a pleasure to work with them, and we are thrilled to share these looks with you all! We are also honored to have our dear Minxie, Megan shooting photos for the blog. She is not only a treasured Minxie in the shop but is also a talented photographer & we’re stoked to have her on the Minx Blog team.

Take a Bow

The floral shift dress is (or definitely should be!) a staple in every gals’ wardrobe. Its flirty and girly while still being adaptable to everyone’s personal style and flair. They can be dressed up with heels, or down with a denim jacket and sneakers. Its no secret the millions of wardrobe variations you can create with a floral dress and a little creativity. Feeling tired of your classic combos? Try different textures in the same color family. We love these velvet belt that can be tied in many different ways to suit the occasion. Adding some statement shoes, with some unexpected texture like faux fur or metal hardware, adds interest and changes up the entire vibe without my effort. Accessorizing is key for putting a new spin on your most beloved go-to pieces.

What Would Jane Do?

Hi Spring! The Minxies are thrilled you’ve arrived! The time has come for strolls in the park, outdoor picnics, riverside get-togethers, Easter celebrations, weddings galore- and so, so much more! And believe us, we are READY. Needing that staple piece to seamlessly guide you through all of your Springtime events? Two words: Susana Monaco. Now, if you’ve been with us for awhile this shouldn’t come as a surprise. We love the sturdy, yet extreme comfort of the fabric used in all her pieces. The fit is incomparable and these pieces are made to hold their shape through many, many wears. This lilac color is the epitome of Spring to us! Its pastel and bright, yet can still be styled as a neutral if that’s more of your color pallet. Grab a light layer for those crisp mornings and cooling breeze, and you’ll be totally set for whatever comes your way this season.

Ark & WHOAH

Happy Spring! Monday was the official first day of Spring, but to be honest we have been enjoying the spring-like temperatures and showers for awhile. And with Spring officially among us comes Spring weddings, holidays, and special occasions. We love that this dress from Ark & Co seems to have the fresh buds of spring woven into every inch. This dress can stand alone at any outdoor get together and depending on shoes and accessories can easily be dressed up or down. We love the hint of metallic thread that catches the light (because trust us, you’re going to want to twirl in this one!)

Swiss Dots and Sendra for Spring

The Reassessment of Key Pieces for Your Wardrobe

The world is warming up again and the result, at least in the realm of fashion, is an opportunity for every Minx to experience a refreshing re-examination of her closet. There is an agitation in the breeze, but it a positive agitation. A creative energy buzzes around us imploring us to take stock of our lives and tempting us to add some innovations to it.

Bare Those Legs and Do it Now!

After months of tights, legs are finally busting out all over Asheville, and the hills and valleys beyond. Now, tights are fabulous and do create a whole array of looks with a utilitarian grace that can not be achieved without them.

But, the freedom afforded by the bold and sensual simplicity of a naked leg under the ruffling layers of skirts and dresses is second to none. The feeling of freeing one’s legs from a winter of tights and trousers could be best expressed in nothing short of the battle cry of a kilt clad Highland Laird.

Mid Layers Re-cast as Outerware

The spring chill still clings to our days, so even though our down coats have been packed away one can’t be living in a fully sleeveless wardrobe.

Yet, who among us has not noticed the protective outer-layers of our fellow citizen’s outfits peeling off like so many dyed eggshells at an Easter brunch?

It is time to re-evaluate our mid layers of clothing and re-cast them as out-layers. Flannel shirts, cardigans and light jackets, it is your time to shine. (Flannel look familiar? We styled the same piece previously- check out an entirely different way to wear it here!)

Key Pieces for Your Spring Wardrobe

It seems that in late spring many Minxes banish their dark clothing to the backs of their closets. We are not there yet. No, we are still in the transition of the seasons, still firmly rooted in early spring. Now is the time of year when dark-colored linens, dusky sheers and delicate weights of dark-colored cottons reign supreme.

This Sheer Swiss Dot Dress is a perfect example of dark-colored spring essentials. These are the items that will be a Minx’s key pieces in her spring wardrobe. Something with the breath and movement of warmer days reflected in the weight of the fabric, but dark in color.

Think of them as the welcoming committee for the rest of your spring wardrobe, ushering in the lace, the florals, the sundresses and the shorts. They are the key pieces striking a careful balance between the budding leaves and the stirrings underground of thing not fully awake.
