Tell Me A Storia

Hello, sweet friends! We are back and, whew, it feels so good! Spring is here in Asheville and we thought that there’s no better way to bring the Minx Blog back than with the Botanical Gardens as a backdrop & featuring two Spring dress looks! We are so thrilled to have Carrie & Grace modeling for us this season– let’s make some introductions. These two lovely locals embody a soft strength that perfectly encapsulates what Minx is all about. Carrie works out of a collective space with other artists and makers in Marshall & spends her time traveling all over searching for beautiful vintage finds to bring back to Asheville. Grace is a visual artist and weaver whose work can be found in coffee shops, art stores, and galleries all over Asheville & beyond. It was such a pleasure to work with them, and we are thrilled to share these looks with you all! We are also honored to have our dear Minxie, Megan shooting photos for the blog. She is not only a treasured Minxie in the shop but is also a talented photographer & we’re stoked to have her on the Minx Blog team.

Classic Collection

Yes, friends, it may be the time where it actually starts FEELING like Fall here in beautiful Asheville, NC! We are thrilled. Dressing for cooler weather is a time to play with layers, colors, and textures. In the warmer months, sometimes less is more and staying sweat-free trumps style choices 9 times out of 10. But in Fall/Winter, it’s really time to play! While we aren’t technically in winter-coat weather yet, it’s definitely time to start planning for it — and a great place to start could be color and proportions. In this look, we have a very neutral/pastel pallet. You wouldn’t expect to see too much lilac in the Fall; a season dominated by jewel-tones, mustards, and dark tones. But we love it year ’round! These light pieces are perfect on their own and also lend themselves to layering up as it gets colder. We chose to add some pattern and interest in these striped, block heels. This is an elegant, comfortable look that will seamlessly bring you from season to season.

Blank Stares

At Minx we love embracing a little kitsch into our style – it’s important to not take yourself or your style so seriously. When we are investing into our style and into the image we are creating for ourself each day, it can feel like every move we make must be perfect. Truth is – what’s most important is to have fun. Fun is one of our shop’s values and it’s an important one. There are subtle ways to incorporate fun into your wardrobe, perhaps with some hidden details or an unpredictable color or fabric. On the other hand, there are hamburger sweaters that are an obvious statement of joy. We hope you can find some joy in your creative fashion expression!

Oui, Oui!

With the first day of Fall just a few days ago, it’s time now to start considering what sweaters you already have in your wardrobe and what new trends and staples you’re wanting to add this season. This “OUI” sweater is the perfect blend of a cool-weather slogan tee and a 50s letterman style sweater. It has a vintage feel with a more modern and trend-driven color pallet. We decided to pair this with white skinny jeans to help the texture and color of the knit really stand out. Plus, that whole “don’t wear white after Labor Day” rule is for the birds! Fashion rules, as you know, are meant to be broken, friends!

By Golly, By Timo

Let’s face it – there’s a lot of fashion rules. And I know we talk a lot here about how to push the envelope when those rules are holding you back from being your true authentic self. And this post is no different! There may not be a hashtag yet for the statement sock (or maybe there is? #statementsock where are ya?!) but we are certainly here for this subtle trend. It may seem like totally against the rules to pair sparkly socks with such a classic dress, but we say, “go for it!” This By Timo dress is a floral, ruffle, western, romance all rolled into one beautiful piece. Sometimes a piece that is so specific almost lends itself for even more rule-bending! Next time you’re out shopping, find something super literal and see if there are ways to bring it closer to your personal style. A Gingham dress with lace trim? Add a moto jacket and high top sneakers. A floor-length satin slip dress? Add a patterned long sleeve underneath or a neckerchief. In short, push that evenlope, friends! It’s fashion – nothing is off limits.

A floral dress is a staple in most wardrobes, and it’s so easy to see why! It’s timeless, effortless, and is the perfect pallet the add your personal flare. When adding a go-to piece, like a floral dress, to your closet it’s important to notice what details set it apart and make it special. The sleeve detail definitely sets this dress apart. Feel free to push your fashion envelope when you find those affordable pieces. What makes a staple piece special for you?
