Take a Double

We love the opportunity to bring lightness to fashion. FUN is one of our values at Minx and we see this look as a clear personification of that value. We are always excited to showcase denim on the blog in all of its incredible, intricate, forms. The colorful embroidery on this Levi’s jacket embody Spring–its as if new Spring blooms from the trees fell perfectly on Grace’s shoulders as we walked through the botanical gardens. The pattern is vibrant and lends itself to matching all different colors and styles. We brought out the pinks in the jacket with pink accessories and an otherwise a blue pallet for it to really pop. No need to banish your denim pieces to the back of the closet- have a little fun with your denim looks this Spring!

Forage

You know the feeling when you look at a picture and you just immediately squeal with delight? It just bursts out of you! Well, that’s precisely what happened when we saw this photo-set of Carrie in our Levi’s Utility Jumpsuit. There’s something so perfectly contrasted about that piece in the river & amongst perfect yellow blooms of the botanical gardens. And it’s no shock that this jumpsuit is comfy, as evidenced by Carrie doing full-on hand stands in between shots. Even with all of the acrobatics, this jumpsuit is tailored to hug your shape perfectly so that YOU are wearing the piece and it’s not wearing/tugging/bunching you. We see this jumpsuit as a unique canvas for you to add your own personal flare to, keeping in mind that the backup plan can always be splashing around in a river!

Sweater Weather

When you imagine winter-ware, and specifically sweaters, what sorts of words come to mind? Cuddly, yes. Oversized, perhaps. Knitted, yes of course. But there is so much more to these winter-weather staples! We are seeing sweaters in vastly different shapes, silhouettes, and styles. Cropped, leather accents, boat-neck, off the shoulder, tie-details. You name it and it’s probably on a sweater! Who says sweaters can’t be sexy, after all? Yes, they’re east to toss on and amazing to snuggle up in on a cold evening, but they can also be the star of your winter ensemble. Here we have a homage to old Hollywood, think: casual Marilyn Monroe with this off-the-shoulder black sweater from French Connection. Paired with dark, slimmed jeans, and a great, strappy heel, you are rocking a timeless look while also feeling comfortable for whatever the winter may bring. We hope you feel inspired to create a look with your sweaters as the main event rather than just another layering piece.

Unapologetic

Monochromatic. You may hear this word thrown around a lot when talking about an all-black outfit, or an all-neutrals look. We are here to show you the monochromatic looks don’t need to stop at neutrals! Whatever shade you are really digging this Winter can be translated into an amazing monochromatic look. To achieve this, we chose the purple/cool-toned-family and utilized different shades of purple to create a cohesive look. With the color-tone of your outfit consistent, feel free to play with textures and fabrics to add interest and elevation to your look. We hope you feel inspired to rock your favorite shade from head to toe!

Bending the Rules

Let’s be honest – the fun and creativity of fashion and self-expression can kind of get pushed aside by “rules” you hear about as your brought up. Things like: you cant wear white after Labor Day (where did that rule even come from?!), or you cant wear black and brown together, or this body shape can only wear this silhouette. These parameters probably originated with good intentions, but at this point we are ready to leave those in the past! No matter what the season, you shouldn’t feel obligated to banish some shades to the back of the closet. Pastel shades are a typically-found Spring and Summertime staple, but why not in winter? Winter white is a thing, after all! This beautiful lilac coat is the perfect winter jacket that isn’t your typical darker color shade. Everything around you may say to Go Dark this Winter, but don’t feel like you have to if those lilacs and pale yellows and creams are calling your name! Fashion rules are meant to be broken!

Take My Hand

We are so excited to have a double feature this week on the blog! You hear words thrown around like “dressing up” and “formal” and “events” – and while we all may use these words interchangeably, they have very different meanings for each individual. There is no cookie-cutter way to dress. While it is respectful to dress according to all specific instructions presented by those putting on a certain event, when its left open-ended we hope you will feel inspired to truly be YOU even when dressing more formal than usual. These looks below, while certainly not black-tie formal, are still elevated looks with two very different aesthetics. This red plaid coat from Vilagallo is a great combination of masculine silhouettes and fabrics, with true feminine details (the lining of this coat has the sweetest illustrations!) Worn with a button-down and straight leg denim from Levis, we are definitely playing up menswear with this look. On the other hand, lace and velvet is quintessential feminine formality and we have shown that with a new, modern flare. This high-neck lace detail blouse is perfect for layering or standing out on its own. These wintertime fabrics make a statement all their own without any effort. Above all else, we hope you will stay true to yourself for all of your formal holiday events this year!

Make A Day of It

We hear it all the time – “I’m not a hat girl.” Or “I can ONLY wear skinny jeans.” Or “I just don’t want to draw attention to myself.” We understand having a reliable uniform and we understand the comforting feeling of wardrobe staples and go-to’s. In fact, they are an incredibly important part of building personal style. At the same time, its also easy to box ourselves into a comfort zone and start giving ourselves fashion rules that let us get away with self-deprecating thoughts and mantras. At Minx, we love gently encouraging our customers, and OURSELVES, to try something they never have (or have before and weren’t feeling at the time!) and start challenging these self-imposed fashion rules with empowerment being the ultimate goal. So –  toss on a hat, try out a bold print, or come grab that white button-down you’ve been eyeing that will always fit just right. Either way – we are here and we are in your corner!
