In Your Dreams

Minx has been built on not only a love of and deep connection to fashion and visual expression, but also to music. Connection to live performance, music history and trends, and melody are all foundational to who Minx is. We recognize that music and fashion are sides of the same coin of expression – it would be hard for us to have one without the other. As music trends and taste change and return, so, we find, does fashion. We hope you find that these inexplicable forces are serving you well in how you navigate your world and that Minx is able to help join them together. Imagine the music throughout your life that has shaped who you are and how you see the world. If you were to visualize it – what colors would you see? We see this process similarly with fashion. What tune do you hear in your head when you wear a floral print? How about a leather moto jacket? Does the rhythm of your steps change with the change of your attire? We hope you will explore these ideas within yourself and as you step outside of your fashion comfort zone, maybe let your new favorite song lead the way? Sure, maybe you’ve never worn a crop top. But something about blasting the new Beyonce album kind of makes you wanna give it a try. Go with that! And we’ll be here to give you compassionate and authentic guidance while you make those choices. You got this!

Stroll in Bloom

Florals are a timeless and playful pattern that compliments nearly every occasion in every season. Finding a floral piece in your wardrobe that you love and that fits your mood is a great starting point in curating an outfit. So, you grab your floral piece and notice the fabrics and the colors. The kind of fabric usually gives you a clue what occasion it will fit best and what weather it is best suited for. Also, notice the different colors of the flowers and from there you can find other pieces to add to it. We decided to pair a casual light blue v-neck with these trousers which goes nicely with the blue in the flowers. We wanted the red in the pattern to stand out, but a red or pink shirt would also go beautifully. Let the floral print do the talking and allow your accessories and other pieces to compliment it without distracting from it. We thought a neutral shoe and bag would help complete this look – these heels from Dolce Vita are truly perfect with any outfit and they certainly complete this look effortlessly.

Bad Kitty

The white t-shirt & jeans. This combo may be the most beloved in all of street style history. It seems like whenever we come across an accessory, piece of outerwear, or shoe that seems too outlandish to wear outside of a Fashion Week Runway, our go-to is to always try it with a t-shirt and pair of jeans. This practical pairing seems to make anything more realistic and approachable like magic. Maybe there was some subtle eyerolls there, and it’s okay, we get it! With such an accommodating outfit as the white tee/jeans, there does run the risk of it getting monotonous. But don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater! (Yikes, that phrase is intense) I just mean, before you swear off of the white tee/jeans look entirely, try adding some personal flare. It’s a great canvas, all it needs is some personal creativity! No need for couture – just a colorful neck scarf or layering piece can elevate this classic staple into something a bit more individualized.

Studio

The cold has arrived! It is here, friends, in a major way and while it may seem obvious that layering up is key to defending yourself against the winter-winds, we would also encourage you to play with textures as you layer! Taking a look in your closet, you can notice what kinda of knits and fabrics you may already gravitate towards: a chunkier knit sweater, a really fine cashmere, structured leather, – the list could go on and on. What we love about this look is it takes textures to the next level! This soft leather dress is the perfect juxtaposition for this fuzzy, furry pink sweater. Help keep your mixed-and-matched textures with something similar to tie it together. We love the zipper detail on the sleeves of the sweater and it ties in nicely with the hardware on the dress. So this winter, we hope you will not only step out of your layering box, but also go for it with the fabric textures you choose!

Set Up

It’s no secret: we LOVE sets! Maybe you’ll remember this wonderfully tropical two-piece set from the summer. Now we have a more weather appropriate sweater set that can easily take you from running errands to a nice dinner out without much restyling. Toss on your favorite, go-to sneakers with this look for the day, and when the evening rolls around add some tights and black booties and you’re ready! For added warmth, you could easily layer a chambray or flannel shirt underneath to add some additional color and interest to this look. If you love a sweater dress but also desire flexibility, this sweater set would be perfect. Wear these two pieces together, or combine them with your well-loved winter essentials and you are good to go! Also, quick moment of silent reverence for this velvet, embroidered bag from Johnny Was. Such a luscious and functional piece, we are beyond obsessed.

Swing, Swing

We love it when an outfit can be striking and also carry you through many different activities of the day seamlessly. This sweet, floral crop top from Sadie + Sage paired with these high-waisted shorts can effortlessly take you from brunch in the morning, to running errands during the afternoon – all with a little help of a shoe and outerwear change. This crocheted kimono from Echo is a lovely, subtle statement that adds a touch of romance to your look. Feel free to wear it open as a duster, or even tied around for a great swimsuit coverup. For your afternoon activities, we switched out the kimono for a great cropped moto-jacket and some trusty sneakers. And just like that, you’re ready to hit the ground running without compromising your look.

Corners

We’ve already covered in past posts our love affair with wearing white for summer. And this dress from English Factory is no exception. Today we really encourage you to take staples and trends that you know you love and suit you, and push the envelope just that much further. If you know you love a tunic shape on your body, pick up a great tunic with a cold-shoulder detail. Or perhaps you live in button-downs, find one with some leather paneling in the back or some lace elements. That’s what we love about English Factory – they take an approachable piece like a white dress and add elements to create an edgy, daring look. The tiered ruffles on the bottom on this dress immediately transport you to somewhere dreamy! And the tiny floral details are a nice take on a pattern that can sometimes be too busy or over-saturating. So, before summer ends, find your staple piece and then step it up a notch into somewhere a little more daring and unexpected. (Maybe that means less is more!) Whatever rings true for YOU. It’s a little scary at first, but the Minxies have got your back!

Have A Seat

If you’ve been with us awhile, then the genius that is Johnny Was designs will come as no surprise to you. Embroidery, being one of the biggest trends this season, is one of the most defining features of a Johnny Was garment and they have been in the game for awhile! These special pieces speak to that vintage, well-loved feel with the detail and dedication of a hand-stitched embroidery, bringing life and story to each piece. We strongly suggest investing in Johnny Was that speaks to you – its true wearable art and translates to any event. Understated and yet eye-catching, this tunic dress from Johnny Was needs no introduction and is not quickly forgotten.

Crushed Blush

It’s no secret how much we (and the fashion world at large!) love this blush-y, rose-y shade of pink. Maybe we love how closely it matches a crisp glass of rose? Maybe we cant help but be swept up in the “millennial pink” trend? No matter how we got there – we sure our happy to incorporate more pink in our wardrobe. With this soft, pastel look we thought incorporating bold accessories and shoes would balance it nicely and add some interest. Don’t wait for an all-neutral look to add a pop of color – just pair pieces from the same color family and find a pair of statement shoes to really top it off. We love how these heels from Seychelles really stand out with the rest of this otherwise monochromatic look. So, millennial or not, we hope you feel encouraged to think pink this summer!

Chin Up

We hope you all had a wonderful Fourth of July full of BBQs, fireworks, and those you love around you! Speaking of holidays, whether its before or after Labor Day – there’s no denying how fantastic a crisp white dress is for summer! We love this three-quarter inch sleeve, embroidered dress from Lazybones (and also obsessed over them in a previous post, if you’re curious!). Wearing white can be an excellent way to incorporate neutrals that maybe don’t get as much love during the colder seasons. White tshirts, white shorts, sneakers that used to be white as some point – its all good for this summer! It also creates a beautiful pallet for mixing with accessories and shoes that speak to your personal style. From patterns, to textures, to neons, a white style foundation can handle it all! Happy styling!
