Think that all your light-toned florals are banished to the back of the closet now that Fall is here? Think again! The key to rocking your pastel patterns is to find them on fabrics that will keep you warm, are able to be layered, or that have some textural interest. All of these things you will find in this By Timo mini dress. The high neck and long sleeves make this dress completely Autumn appropriate without drowning you out in a sea of black and neutral-tones (not that we don’t LOVE neutrals, because whoah, we love ’em!) If bright colors are your thing – let that colorful flag fly all year ’round! These velvet Mary Janes from Chelsea Crew tie this look all together with the jewel-like velvet material – and how good would these shoes look over some black tights?!

Swing, Swing

We love it when an outfit can be striking and also carry you through many different activities of the day seamlessly. This sweet, floral crop top from Sadie + Sage paired with these high-waisted shorts can effortlessly take you from brunch in the morning, to running errands during the afternoon – all with a little help of a shoe and outerwear change. This crocheted kimono from Echo is a lovely, subtle statement that adds a touch of romance to your look. Feel free to wear it open as a duster, or even tied around for a great swimsuit coverup. For your afternoon activities, we switched out the kimono for a great cropped moto-jacket and some trusty sneakers. And just like that, you’re ready to hit the ground running without compromising your look.

Have A Seat

If you’ve been with us awhile, then the genius that is Johnny Was designs will come as no surprise to you. Embroidery, being one of the biggest trends this season, is one of the most defining features of a Johnny Was garment and they have been in the game for awhile! These special pieces speak to that vintage, well-loved feel with the detail and dedication of a hand-stitched embroidery, bringing life and story to each piece. We strongly suggest investing in Johnny Was that speaks to you – its true wearable art and translates to any event. Understated and yet eye-catching, this tunic dress from Johnny Was needs no introduction and is not quickly forgotten.

Chin Up

We hope you all had a wonderful Fourth of July full of BBQs, fireworks, and those you love around you! Speaking of holidays, whether its before or after Labor Day – there’s no denying how fantastic a crisp white dress is for summer! We love this three-quarter inch sleeve, embroidered dress from Lazybones (and also obsessed over them in a previous post, if you’re curious!). Wearing white can be an excellent way to incorporate neutrals that maybe don’t get as much love during the colder seasons. White tshirts, white shorts, sneakers that used to be white as some point – its all good for this summer! It also creates a beautiful pallet for mixing with accessories and shoes that speak to your personal style. From patterns, to textures, to neons, a white style foundation can handle it all! Happy styling!

From the Archives: Relax Into Boyfriend Jeans

We’ve pulled one of our favorite summer posts from the archives because a look this good deserves a second chance! Check out “Relax Into Boyfriend Jeans” from August 2014 below:

boyfriend_jean North Carolina’s summer spell is upon us.

The past few days have been the hottest yet and we find ourselves desiring  our easiest outfits. As the temperature rises, comfort takes top spot on our priority list. Try pulling on skinny jeans in the late August heat, and you’ll agree, something more relaxed is calling your name.

So, we’re welcoming back our favorite boyfriend jeans from Level 99. The perfect (and oh so comfortable) alternative to your go-to skinnies.

Level 99 Boyfriend JeansBoasting a vibe as relaxed as their fit, these boyfriend jeans are comfortable enough for the hottest days and cool enough for night.

We like to offset the masculine feel of the denim with a pair of killer heels, like these Playtime Slingbacks from Seychelles. Pairing fancy footwear with casual jeans is an excellent and unexpected way to work dressier shoes into your day-to-day look.

boyfriend_jean-3Going for something more effortless? Try pairing them with one of our favorite recurring trends- a luxe sweatshirt top. Easy to style and comfortable to wear, this top from RD Style is just the thing to keep you feeling good from sunup to sundown.

boyfriend_jean-4There are still long summer days ahead, so dress to enjoy them. Stop traffic. Take that detour. With your trusty boyfriend jeans you’ll be ready for whatever awaits!

Love this look? You’re in luck! We’ve just stocked two new styles of boyfriend jeans in-store! Come in and shop similar styles in our downtown Asheville boutique.

Ditzy Raglan Top, RD Style – $72
Leaf Pendant, David Aubrey – $79
Sienna Jeans, Level 99 – $150

Hippity Hoppity, Easter’s On Its Way!

Hippity Hoppity, Easter’s On Its Way!

Here comes Peter Cottontail
Hoppin’ down the bunny trail
Hippity hoppin’, Easter’s on its way

He’s got jelly beans for Tommy
Colored eggs for sister Sue
There’s an orchid for your mommy
And an Easter bonnet too

In an Era Devoid of Easter Bonnets

Hello Minxes! Easter IS almost upon us. Does everyone have their Easter bonnet properly frilled and fitted? No? Alas how fashion changes and changes until Easter bonnets are just the stuff of a Irving Berlin tune.

If we are to be the finest lady in the Easter parade what are we contemporary Minxs to do when it comes to Easter attire?

Chelsea Crew Elyse Sandals

The Country Bunny And The Little Gold Shoes, the brilliant 1930’s feminist picture book by Du Bose Heyward, is the story of a young single mother bunny who manages to secure herself a spot as one of the 5 Easter Bunnies. To get the job you must be kind, swift and wise. Even though our heroine is super speedy from chasing after her 21 babies she ends up needing a little help form a pair of magic golden shoes that allow her to jump mountains in a few hops.

My point Minxes is this: if not bonnets then an outfit that imbues us with marvelous amounts of stealth and speed. If one can move well and efficiently then one can spread twice the kindness and wisdom to the world. Speed is also helpful in aggressive Easter egg hunts!

Golden Shoes Or Golden Jewelry: Either Way Keep It Golden

If you have golden shoes for Easter we say wear them! But, if not then champion The Country Bunny with golden jewelry!

New Sporty Trend for Spring

We chose this look with a nod towards the sporty trend that is popping up this spring. Light clothes that move with you. Clothes that are easy to throw in an overnight bag, but that keep a laid back sophistication regardless of the situation.

This pastel top is simple and refreshing. It is the perfect complement to these fabulous trousers straight out of a jungle paradise.

Sporty Heels in Bold Tropical Colors

Wide ankle straps are everywhere this spring. With a chunkier heel and a bold color, this heel fits firmly into the sporty trend. This is a heel, but one with an attitude and stamina for adventure. Most Minxes, regardless of their heaps of kindness and wisdom, are not chasing 21 babies or delivering Easter treats to children all over the world. So, what will you chase or gift in these swift heels?

Whatever you choose, we recommend popping by YouTube first and watching Judy Garland and Fred Astaire sing Easter Parade!
