Just A Lady

We are loving getting lost in this dreamy maxi dress from Traffic People. This charming paisley pattern is accented with unexpected details. The polka-dots, stacked ruffles, and belt with tassel adds whimsy to this magical piece. The Asheville Botanical Gardens provided the perfect backdrop for this look– c’mon, those precious violets with this dress is absolutely wonderful! Traffic People always excites us and this piece is no exception!

You’re Just My Type

We hope you are ready to standout in these statement pieces we have from some of our favorite lines! This patterned blouse from Rolla’s is such a special top, with bold colors, clearly inspired by a modern art paintings. We paired it with these edgy 501 jeans from Levi’s. These jeans have the best details: the zip pockets and zip accents along the bottom, and the paneling on the sides, and raw hemline all add interest to an already unique pair of denim. We decided finish off this look with these amazing pointed-toe heels from shop favorite, Intentionally Blank. This bright orange shoe matches absolutely perfectly to the orange in the top! We hope you feel inspired to go full-on with your looks, and not always leave your statement pieces for the extra pop.

Power to the Pink Suit

POWER. SUIT. We know them. We love them. Some of our favorite looks involve incredible tailoring. And this look is by no means an exception. In fact, this pink suit from Current Air has an energy all on its own. Carrie really embodied that badass, feminine energy that this suit sets the stage for. And we get it. Menswear, while being incredibly on trend, can be a bit of an intimidating fashion leap for some. And then when you factor in a head-to-toe bright pink, some may hesitate. And, our hope is that you will take a little risk and let your inner boss shine loud (and assertive!) and proud. Perhaps that means just getting a tailored blazer as a start. Or maybe that means taking these pin-stripe pants into the dressing room, doing a quiet dance alone, and then coming out to have a look in the big shop mirror. Whatever that means, we hope you will tap into your inner freakin’ bad ass, because she is in there, and we love her!

Within the Fringe

As I look through these photos I keep thinking how it looks like an album cover for Grace’s new electronic-folk record and I just love every moment of that daydream! Speaking of dreams, this dress from Just Female is a dreamy, light work of wearable art. The detail along the shoulders, front, and hem of the dress is soft and perfectly delicate. It flatters the natural flow and curve of the wearer and flatters each movement. Adding sneakers and a bright pink earring juxtaposes the delicate flow of the dress without interrupting it or screeching to a halt. Don’t hesitate to add your personal flare, or even try something a bit unexpected, to such elegant pieces. They may seem too precious, but in actuality, they are begging to be individualized. That’s really the whole secret to wearing the piece and not “letting the piece wear you.” Beyond everything, we want to see YOU, not simply just the garment. Bring on the flare!

A Royal Flush

Strolling around the Botanical Gardens, we arrived at this bridge and knew it would be the perfect spot for this look. The pinkish-purple flowers framing Carrie in the drawstring top from Current Air is quite the match! Our favorite part is the sage green piped detail around the collar and shoulders on this top. Its subtle but adds so much! This look feels very sophisticated and the detail really helps it stand out and elevate it. These tiered pants pair nicely with the top, adding shape and opulence to this overall effortless look. We see this look as a happy balance between casual and a special occasion look. If dressing for an event tends to bring anxiety, this look is a great way to remain comfortable and casual while still having a touch of formal.

Beyond the Bell Curve

This sweatshirt, friends. THIS. SWEATSHIRT. I can’t recall a time that a black sweatshirt triggered such feelings of joy and intrigue than when I borrowed (did not steal) my sister’s black NKOTB sweatshirt from her drawer. This bell-sleeved, cropped sweatshirt from Levi’s is about a hundred times softer and must less previously owned (as in, not at all) than my sister’s sweatshirt. It conjures up effortless magic! We kept this look overall in a neutral & monochromatic pallet to help fully embody the magic elements of the sweatshirt. My heart actually skipped a beat as I imagined styling this piece under a pair of overalls and sneakers, so let me just take a deep breath here. The midi-length skirt pairs sweetly with this stripped mules from Intentionally Blank. If a mule is a shape that you love (and we’re betting you do!) be sure to give this new shape a try. It has a round toe and doesn’t come up as high on the sides as most mules, giving an overall softer look. It’s got the tiniest heal which is perfect for any event. So whether you’re “hangin’ tough” (had to bring the NKOTB reference back around) or laying low, we love everything about this look for you.

Monochrome Magic

You’ve heard it, you’ve seen it, so it’s clear that monochrome is very on-trend these days. We’re especially loving this trend and how creative we can be with our outfits within the monochrome pallet. We opted for an all white/cream look but this trend extends to every color of the rainbow! We would recommend also playing with different shades of the same color in this trend. The pink shoes bring a new take to the pop of color, since the shoes are more of a pastel pink, but they really stand out with the otherwise cream color tone. Enjoy playing around with this trend– we certainly are!

Take a Double

We love the opportunity to bring lightness to fashion. FUN is one of our values at Minx and we see this look as a clear personification of that value. We are always excited to showcase denim on the blog in all of its incredible, intricate, forms. The colorful embroidery on this Levi’s jacket embody Spring–its as if new Spring blooms from the trees fell perfectly on Grace’s shoulders as we walked through the botanical gardens. The pattern is vibrant and lends itself to matching all different colors and styles. We brought out the pinks in the jacket with pink accessories and an otherwise a blue pallet for it to really pop. No need to banish your denim pieces to the back of the closet- have a little fun with your denim looks this Spring!

Forage

You know the feeling when you look at a picture and you just immediately squeal with delight? It just bursts out of you! Well, that’s precisely what happened when we saw this photo-set of Carrie in our Levi’s Utility Jumpsuit. There’s something so perfectly contrasted about that piece in the river & amongst perfect yellow blooms of the botanical gardens. And it’s no shock that this jumpsuit is comfy, as evidenced by Carrie doing full-on hand stands in between shots. Even with all of the acrobatics, this jumpsuit is tailored to hug your shape perfectly so that YOU are wearing the piece and it’s not wearing/tugging/bunching you. We see this jumpsuit as a unique canvas for you to add your own personal flare to, keeping in mind that the backup plan can always be splashing around in a river!

Tell Me A Storia

Hello, sweet friends! We are back and, whew, it feels so good! Spring is here in Asheville and we thought that there’s no better way to bring the Minx Blog back than with the Botanical Gardens as a backdrop & featuring two Spring dress looks! We are so thrilled to have Carrie & Grace modeling for us this season– let’s make some introductions. These two lovely locals embody a soft strength that perfectly encapsulates what Minx is all about. Carrie works out of a collective space with other artists and makers in Marshall & spends her time traveling all over searching for beautiful vintage finds to bring back to Asheville. Grace is a visual artist and weaver whose work can be found in coffee shops, art stores, and galleries all over Asheville & beyond. It was such a pleasure to work with them, and we are thrilled to share these looks with you all! We are also honored to have our dear Minxie, Megan shooting photos for the blog. She is not only a treasured Minxie in the shop but is also a talented photographer & we’re stoked to have her on the Minx Blog team.
